Ideas for Landscaping Care of Your Real Turf

Verdant lawns are very popular. It’s because someone has put some quality efforts and care into the real turf. While it looks like very hard to do, especially when you see the beauty of the turf at the horse races or at the golf course, but in reality, not so much.

Ideas for Landscaping

We’ll discuss a few things about this throughout this article, with comments about the lawnmower, the lawn mower battery, landscaping, artificial turf, and the lawn tractor.

There are just a few easily implemented real turf ground rules:

Maintaining the beautiful greens that you see at the golf tournaments is not hard at all. It just takes knowing ‘how’ to work, and some good common sense direction. First let me point you in the direction of the rule of third, and the rule of 25 mm.

Ideas for Landscaping 1

Watering the lawn – The rule of 25 will assist you in watering the lawn just enough to replenish the loss through evaporation, and keep an even flow of water to the grass.

This can be accomplished by filling a dish to around the 25mm level. Then after you water the area, set the dish somewhere in that area. Once the water has evaporated, then you know it’s time to water again.

The watering should be done with heavy doses on an infrequent basis rather than shallow doses frequently. You need to make sure the water gets down to the roots of the grass. Be sure not to water ‘too much’ though, you don’t want any water-logged areas either.

While water-logging can destroy your grass, sometimes a little over-watering can be good, especially if mixed with some fertilizers that are nitrogen rich. This will cause your grass to be ‘spongy’ and feel really alive when walked on.

Mornings are the best time of day for watering your grass, allowing for the water to sink to the roots. Noon brings along the evaporation at its highest, so watering then would be a waste. Evenings serve as a good time as well, just whenever evaporation is at its lowest.

Lawnmowers and mowing the turf – This is where the rule of ‘third’ comes in. What’s meant by this, is to never cut the grass to more than one third of the length of the mower blade. It’s hard on the grass when you do. The root system can’t take the close shaves, so the grass should never be cut so close to the ground.

Example: Whatever the type of grass, the blade length will probably be between 20 and   40mm. Therefore, the grass should be allowed to grow to 30 to 40mm before  getting cut.

The cut grass can be left as food for the grass that’s left, instead of removing it for the artistic value. You don’t want your soil to experience thatching. So the rule of 25mm, and the rule of third should keep you where you need to be.
